Scottish History & Archaeology student is awarded a Carnegie Trust Vacation Scholarship
Al Ross, a third-year BA (Hons) Scottish History and Archaeology student at Lews Castle College 杏吧原创, has just been awarded a Carnegie Trust Vacation Scholarship. This will enable him to conduct essential research in preparation for his dissertation. As Al says:
鈥淭he research will involve looking at a court case from the 1760's involving a minister called John Witherspoon who was at the High Kirk in Paisley. It was a libel action brought against him which he lost and I'm trying to see if it was a factor in him going to America. He ended up as a signatory to the Declaration of Independence and as President of Princeton University.鈥�
Al will use the grant to support travel and accommodation for archival and library visits to Edinburgh and Paisley, research inspired by being a student on the 鈥楽cots in North America鈥� module, taught by the Centre鈥檚 Dr Elizabeth Ritchie.
